Saeed

Dr Saeed Harib

Vice President – DIMC Born in 1956 and raised by the sea, Saeed Harib, who hails from a family of leading seafarers, has been from an early age, tirelessly preserving and promoting the traditions of his country as much as serving it.Saeed did his primary education at Al Shaab School and since he was an outgoing friendly child he participated in sports and football was his passion. His love for the sport secured him a place in the National football team of the UAE and he travelled outside the UAE for several sports events representing his country. After his schooling, Saeed decided to study media communications and took off to Cairo University. His academic results were not so good so he decided to quit and came back to the UAE joining the army where he rose to the position of Colonel, playing football for the army as well as the Al Wasl Club. His prowess on the field saw him become the captain of the team until he had to give up due to a serious accident that left the right side of his face scarred.

In 1984 he took over as team manager for six years. It was only a short time after which he was approached by HH Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President Dubai Civil Aviation and Chairman Emirates Group, at a power boat race to consider the possibility of developing watersports and powerboat races in Dubai. Saeed took up the challenge and hasn’t stopped since, always finding new ways to promote the sport locally as well as internationally. “It was the trust that HH Sheikh Ahmed had in me and my hard work that I am rewarded with this position today”, says Saeed. What followed later is history; the foundation for DIMC was laid in 1988 and started off in a port-a-cabin where today stands the Barasti Bar of the Le Meridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina. “It was from here that DIMC has grown to international recognition of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), the governing body for watersports”.

In 2004 Saeed Harib was appointed UIM Commissioner by the UIM which he later resigned due to disagreements with the administration. On December 2nd 2006, Saeed and IOTA in an unanimous decision decided to break away from the UIM and formed the World Professional Powerboating Association (WPPA) based in Dubai. Saeed is the President with several other power boating enthusiasts as council members.

Under the leadership of Saeed Harib, DIMC continued to grow and receive international recognition time and again. In 2013 Saeed Harib was elevated to the post of Vice President of DIMC a position that till date leaves him humbled and grounded in his passion – watersports development.
