Registration Closes Today for the Second Round of Traditional Rowing Race

08 December 2023

Registration for participation in the Traditional Rowing Race 30ft (the second round of the Dubai Championship 2023-2024), organized by the Dubai International Marine Club, closes today (Friday) as part of the current sports season.

At the beginning of the week, the organizing committee at the Dubai International Marine Club announced the commencement of the major race and opened participation for those wishing to take part in this eagerly anticipated challenge. The race serves as the final qualifying stage for the Al Maktoum Cup, the most prestigious tournament, scheduled for the twenty-third of this month.

It is expected that the enlightenment meeting will be held this morning (Friday) between the organizing committee and the participants, where they will discuss the race instructions and respond to all inquiries related to the event scheduled to begin on Saturday at three o'clock in the afternoon.

Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Club, has announced that the anticipated race will take place on the Dubai Water Canal, covering a distance of more than 2.5 km. The racecourse will showcase iconic landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, Business Bay, and Dubai Marina, situated on the opposite side of Al Jadaf Walk, near the Dubai Creek & Wildlife Sanctuary.

Al Marri further explained that the upcoming event will bring together over 40 boats competing in two categories. The first category, known as the local class, will feature the elite captains and owners in the country. The second category, referred to as the open class, is dedicated to boats from the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as well as the teams of government departments, institutions, and private companies.

The Director of the Sports Affairs Department emphasized that the upcoming race represents the final opportunity for all boats to improve their positions in the general ranking list. This is crucial for securing a place among the top 20 elite boats that will compete in the 26th edition of the Al Maktoum Cup Traditional Rowing Race.
