Dubai International Marine Club will launch its activities in 2024 next Friday and Saturday with the organization of a major marine sporting event that brings together fans of traditional races for two days of full competition and excitement.
The second round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race will take place next Friday, followed by the second round of the 60ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race on Saturday, held on Dubai beaches.
The Dubai International Marine Club is concluding its successful season, which began last September and featured various traditional events and races. The club will continue its diverse schedule in the upcoming months of January, February, and March, leading up to the closing date of the events in April.
Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Club, stated that the organizing committee will continue its efforts in organizing various events and ensuring the success of the remaining stages of the 2023-2024 sports season. As half of the events have passed, the other half will remain until April.
He explained that in 2024, there will be many diverse stations featuring competitive races and community events to attract new practitioners of marine sports and various hobbyists. This is intended to motivate the public to follow and encourage participants.
The Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Club pointed out that fans of traditional races are on the verge of three important events, including the second-round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, scheduled for next Friday, followed by the second-round of the 60ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race on Saturday. This event represents the final stage for the long-awaited major race, the 33rd Al Gaffal 60ft Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, from Sir Bu Nair Island to Dubai Shore next April.
Al Marri explained that global and international attention will be focused on the 20th of this month towards the UAE International Aquabike Championship, which is held under Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). It attracts large participation from Emirati champions and international stars of this sport, especially in the professional categories.
Dubai Watersports Day
Al Marri said that community activities are at the forefront of 2024 events, through the organization of Dubai Watersports Day at the beginning of February, which includes competitions such as the second round of the UAE Rowing Championship, Dubai Kitesurf Open, Dubai Standup Paddling and Kayak Race, along with Dubai Kayak Boats Fishing Tournament.
Boat Exhibition
Dubai International Marine Club will continue to organize the Dubai Fishing Competition for Kingfish and Cobia at the end of February and beginning of March in conjunction with the Dubai International Boat Show. For the fourth consecutive time, there will also be the Night Show 2024 dedicated to two Aquabike Championship categories: Flyboard and Freestyle.
People of Determination
The Director of the Sports Affairs Department revealed that the racing program in 2024 will include a package of sporting events supervised by the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation. This includes the Gulf Championship for People of Determination for Modern Sailing boats, which will be held for the first time. Additionally, the UAE National Sailing Championship (Modern Sailing) will be held side by side next March.
