Jumeirah Beach will witness the launching of the new season 2021-2022 with the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race organized by Dubai International Marine Club.
The organizing committee of the race has completed all the preparation needed for the success of today's race in coordination with various government departments and national institutions.
The race will consist of two categories the Junior ages 8-16 & the Youth ages 8-21 wherein the result will be calculated per category at the end of the race.
Hazeem Al Gemzi, Director of Sports Affairs Development Department at DIMC, was keen to welcome all participants in the new season and wishing them success in the race.
Al Gemzi reminded everyone to follow the race rules & regulations set by the organization wherein right after the race will be the Technical Scrutineering for the top 10 winners according to the jury's report. Meanwhile, the top 3 of each category will go to the podium for the awarding ceremony.
He also mentions that the organizing committee monitor closely the weather forecast which is suitable for today's race wherein the windspeed is reaching 10 knots and the wave of one foot that will help the sailors to reach the finish line quickly.
1999
The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) organized the first race for the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race category way back on 1 October 1999 with 16 boat participants. The race serves as the translation of the insightful vision of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum who establish the race to serve an academy to train the young and junior sailor that will qualify them in the bigger race.
2020-2021
In the last sports season, Toofan 21 was successful in taking first place in the overall ranking for the Junior Category while boat no. 118 Eklaa for the Youth Category.
