22ft Dhow Sailing Race in Jumeirah on Thursday

The Dubai International Marine Club announced that it will organize the second and final round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (22ft) in Jumeirah Beach on Thursday , 17th of December 2020 as part of the marine sports season 2020-2021.

The organizing committee decided to choose Thursday the end of the week to hold the event due to the presence of a large number of students on the academic holiday, which will supports the success of the event that is set to happen at 2:30 in the afternoon with a race distance of 5 nautical miles.

The organizing committee announced today  (Sunday) the opening of the registration to participate in the race via the electronic link sent via SMS or thru the club's official website in which the upcoming event is divided into two categories the youth & junior. 

The club held the first round of the said category last September as the season opener of 2020-2021 with the participation of up to 30 boats with 150 sailors onboard where in the boat no. 118 Eklaa top the competition for the first round in the youth category followed by Hujoom 105 for the second place and Barq 85 in third position. While on the Junior Category , the boat 21 Toofan top the first place against Serab 24 and the third place goes to Nahil 90. 

Hazeem Al Gemzi the Director of Sports Department at DIMC said that choosing Thursday will provide ab opportunity to increase the number of participants among students who are already on their vacation from school in which the event target the youth and junior groups. 

He invited everyone that wish to participate to register online via the link sent thru SMS or visit the club official website. The club reviews all the new regulations and instruction implemented as precautionary measure against the pandemic.

The 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race was launched by the club since 1999  with the blessing and support of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, its one of the most important competitions in the marine sports season in Dubai.

These races are considered an academy to sharpen the capabilities and talents of both youth and junior groups, in order to provide them with experience and teach them sailing skills that will qualifies the next generations to participate in the other categories of this races such as the Traditional Sailing Race for 43ft and 60ft.
