22ft Traditional Dhow Boats Sail Off Jumeirah Beach Today

20 December 2024

Jumeirah Beach in Dubai will witness a traditional sporting event this afternoon, featuring 40 boats competing in the second round of the 22ft Dhow Sailing Race, organized by the Dubai International Marine Club as part of the 2024-2025 sports season.

This race holds significant importance as it brings together the rising generation of seafarers. Intense competition is expected among participants for the titles in the first two categories: the Youth and the Juniors. Contestants will also vie for the top positions in today's race to strengthen their standings in the overall rankings, which will be finalized at the conclusion of this season's races.

The race organizing committee has completed all necessary arrangements to ensure the event's success in coordination with government departments and national institutions. The race will take place along the picturesque beaches of Jumeirah, navigating between iconic landmarks such as the World Islands, Palm Jumeirah, and Burj Al Arab Hotel. The course spans more than 5 nautical miles, from the starting point to the finish line, with the route adjusted based on sea conditions, wind speeds, and directions.

Notably, the Dubai International Marine Club successfully organized the first round of the championship last September, marking the launch of the 2024-2025 sports season. That event saw 50 boats competing for titles in the Youth and Junior categories.

The first round's Youth category title was claimed by the boat Hasheem 81, owned by Al Fattan Shipbuilding Company and captained by Mohammed Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi. Meanwhile, the Junior category title went to the boat Sarab 67, owned by Mohammed Sultan Al Marzouqi and captained by Sultan Mohammed Sultan Al Marzouqi.
