The Higher Organizing Committee of the 33rd Al Gaffal 60ft Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, has announced the allocation of three cars to the top three winners of the 33rd edition of this prestigious traditional dhow sailing race, scheduled for next Wednesday.
The great race was founded by the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and has been organized by the Dubai International Marine Club since 1991. It commences from Sir Bu Nair Island, passes through Moon Island, and concludes at the Dubai shore, covering a race distance of more than 50 nautical miles.
121 dhow boats have confirmed their participation in the event, wherein on Wednesday, they will retrace the footsteps of their forefathers, returning home from diving and fishing trips in search of abundant livelihoods.
Saif Juma Al Suwaidi, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club and Vice Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, emphasized the committee's dedication to organizing a unique and distinctive version that resonate with the historical significance of the great race , which receives unwavering support and patronage from His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.
He elaborated on the remarkable response from captains, boat owners, and sailors, which was evident in the high demand for registration to participate in the event. This reflects the deep connection of the people of the Emirates to the past of their forefathers and an inheritance of a solid message by the young generation, whose foundations were laid by the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
The Vice Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee revealed that, in line with its plans to raise the level of competition, they decided to allocate three cars to the top three winners of the race. The first-place holder will receive a 2024 Yukon Denali from General Motors, while the second-place holder will receive a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, and the third-place holder will get a 2024 GMC Sierra.
