31st Al Gaffal Race Postponed

The Committee of the 31st Al Gaffal Long Distance Race organized by Dubai International Marine Club which is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, announces the postponement of the race which scheduled on the 27-29th of May due to the bad weather forecast in the coming days

The Higher Organizing Committee is monitoring the weather forecast and sea conditions to choose the appropriate date to hold the race.

The Higher Organizing Committee is headed by Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar , Chairman of Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) & Vice President of UAE Marine Sports Federation (UAEMSF) decided to postpone the launching of the 31st Al Gaffal Race for the safety of all the participants. The committee is monitoring the weather forecast to hold the race in the best condition.

Bin Meshar said that the Organizing Committee is closely monitoring all the reports pertaining to the weather conditions particularly the waves and winds thru the specialized website and reports from of National Center of Meteorology (NCM), wherein this week the weather is unstable thus preventing the movement of the committee and participating boat towards Sir Bu Na’air Island.

He said that the Organizing Committee is continuously coordinating with various government departments and national institutions in order to make the event a successful one, by providing all the requirements and timetable of the race indicating prior to the arrival of participants in the race location.

The Chairman explained that the club is communicating and updating all the owners, sailors and participants of the Al Gaffal Race from how & when to move safely to the island which is also stated in the Race Instruction provided by the club during the registration process.

In this season the Advisory Committee was formed compromising of 5 local sailors to support the club and expressing out the opinions/suggestions of the racers wherein the decision to postpone the race was approved and accepted by the committee.

The Al Gaffal Long Distance Ras was founded by the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 1991, which became an annual tradition that brings together more than 3000 people in Sir Bu Na’air Island sailing thru Moon Island towards Dubai Coast for more than 50 nautical miles in commemorating the UAE’s culture in fishing and pearl diving.
