White sails will rise on the Dubai shore today with the launch of the 43ft Dhow Sailing Race, marking the first round of the Dubai Championship 2024-2025, organized by the Dubai International Marine Club as part of the new sports season.
Today's event brings together an elite group of captains, owners, and sailors aboard up to 70 boats, all of which confirmed their participation after the registration period closed on Friday. They will recreate a scene from the past against one of the most stunning waterfronts in the region and the Arabian Gulf.
Participants will line up in the depths of the Arabian Gulf near the starting line at Umm Al Hatab Island, heading towards World Island and Jumeirah Shore, with the finish line highlighting the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel.
The race organizing committee has completed all preparations to ensure the success of this highly anticipated event, in coordination with key partners from government departments and national institutions. The committee also updated all participants during an online meeting yesterday, providing details about the racecourse and instructions.
Mohammed Al Marri, the Director of Sports Affairs at DIMC, said that all preparations have been completed as planned, and he wishes all participants success and safety during the race. He also urged all captains, boat owners, and sailors to adhere to the race rules throughout and after the event.
