57 boats are vying for the title in the 22ft Dhow Sailing Race on Jumeirah Shore

12 January 2024

This afternoon, Jumeirah Beach will witness a traditional marine sports event with the second round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (22ft), organized by the Dubai International Marine Club within the sports season 2023-2024.

The race serves as an opening for the club’s activities in 2024 and will be held in conjunction with the World Coolest Winter Campaign. Additionally, this event marks the first sporting occasion after the decision to establish the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club, responsible for managing the club’s affairs for a period of 4 years starting in 2024.

Mohammed Harib, Board Member, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Dubai International Marine Club, stated, 'We look forward to a successful sporting event on the beaches of Jumeirah this Friday afternoon, bringing together the future generation who will compete to win first places in the youth and junior categories, as well as for the top spot in the overall standings at the end of this competition.'

Harib explained that the upcoming race holds great importance as it marks the opening of events in the new year 2024. It also represents the first sporting event after the decision to form the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club under the leadership of its Chairman Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar.

The CEO of the Dubai International Marine Club wished success to the committees working in the race, as well as the captains and sailors participating, and a safe arrival to the finish line for everyone.

It is worth noting that the Dubai International Marine Club opened the 2023-2024 sports season with the first round race of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (22ft) last September. The race witnessed the crowning of boat no. 77 “Zilzal 77”, led by Abdullah Marwan Al Marzouqi, as the champion of the youth category (Under 21 years old), while boat no. 25 “Falah,” captained by Mohammed Al Hammadi, took first place in the junior category (under 16 years old).

The event featured 16 participating boats, with the crew of the boat 'Hayaf,' owned by sailor Rashid Mohammed Rashid Al Rumaithi, successfully crossed the finish line first and claimed the victory.

This race was established as a translation of the vision of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with the aim of creating an academy to train young and junior sailors, preparing them for a bigger races.
