60ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race Postponed

08 March 2024

The organizing committee at the Dubai International Marine Club has decided to postpone the 60ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race – the second round of the 2023-2024 championship, which was scheduled to start tomorrow, Saturday, to a new date to be determined later.

The decision of the organizing committee of the Dubai International Marine Club came in view of the weather fluctuations witnessed in various regions of the country these days, and based on the warnings issued by the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority after the reports of the weather and sea forecast in the Arabian Gulf.

Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at Dubai International Marine Club, said that the organizing committee will consider holding the race on a new date that suits the calendar of the season and all will be notified accordingly if any amendments occur.

In the coming period, the Dubai International Marine Club is preparing to organize the 33rd Al Gaffal 60ft Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, the closing event of the season which is set to depart from Sir Bu Nai’ir Island to the Dubai shore.

It is worth noting that in the first round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (60ft) organized by Dubai International Marine Club last October, the boat no. 25 'Zilzal' led by Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, secured the first-place victory. Following closely is boat no. 55 'Al Tabr,' skippered by Mohammad Suhail Al Muhairi for the second place, while the crew of boat no. 211 'Nimran,' captained by Ali Abdullah Al-Marzouki, secured the third position.
