The Organizing Committee of the 34th Al Gaffal 60ft Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, from Sir Bu Nair Island to Dubai shore, has commenced preparations to ensure the success of this highly anticipated heritage event. The race, dedicated to the 60ft traditional dhow sailing race category, will be scheduled based on optimal sea and wind conditions, either at the end of April or during the first half of May.
The committee recently held a coordination meeting with strategic partners and key stakeholders to review logistical requirements and finalize preparations for the event. The meeting was attended by members of the Higher Organizing Committee, including Khalid Bin Dasmal and Mohammed Abdullah Harib, CEO of the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), along with representatives from government departments and national institutions.
At the beginning of the meeting, Harib conveyed the greetings and appreciation of the Higher Organizing Committee to all supporting partners, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to delivering an outstanding and unique edition of the race—an event that reflects the UAE’s rich maritime heritage and brings together various segments of the community to celebrate the legacy of their forefathers.
He outlined the ongoing efforts to ensure the success of the 34th edition, noting that preparations extend beyond the 50-nautical-mile race course from Sir Bu Nair Island to the Dubai shoreline. The committee is also planning a series of community events at Al Gaffal Village on Umm Suqeim Beach, aimed at enriching the cultural and traditional atmosphere surrounding the race.
The CEO of DIMC reaffirmed that the organizing committee is carefully evaluating all factors to determine the most suitable date for the race, ensuring the safe and smooth transportation of participants to and from Sir Bu Nair Island. These efforts are being carried out in close collaboration with all strategic partners and supporting entities.
The meeting included representatives from Dubai Police (Ports Police Station, General Department of Protective Security & Emergency, Events Department, Air Wing, and the Athletes Council), Sharjah Police, the National Guard (4th Squadron), Dubai Civil Defense, Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and P&O Marinas.
Further coordination was discussed with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Media Incorporated (Dubai Sports TV Channels), Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Dubai Maritime Authority, Department of Economy and Tourism (Dubai Calendar), Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority, Emirates Foundation, VIP Medical Services, PHI Advertising, Leeds Consulting Group, Al Baddad, Platinum Yacht Services, and Al Sinyar Museum.
