Al Makhouli 40, owned by Captain Mohammed Saif Salem bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, won the overall standings of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (43ft), crowning its season with a major achievement by topping the standings for the first time.
The Dubai International Marine Club is accustomed to calculating the overall points standings in the various traditional racing categories it organizes each season, such as the 60ft, 43ft, and 22ft dhow sailing, and 30ft traditional rowing. The points are tallied at the end of the season to announce the leaders.
The crew of Al Makhouli 40 succeeded in obtaining a total of 6 points across the two rounds of the race, which took place on the 28th of September and last Saturday, where they finished 5th in the first round and were crowned champions in the second round.
The second place in the overall standings was claimed by Ghazi 103, owned by Captain Ahmed Saeed Salem Al Rumaithi, who also collected 6 points in the two rounds, finishing fourth in the first and second in the second. The overall result was determined by the final race, in which Al Makhouli 40 took the lead.
While the third place went to the crew of Al Teber 55, led by Captain Mohammed Suhail Al Muhairi, who gathered 7 points after winning the first round and finishing sixth in the second.
Last season’s title holder, Al Taff 70, led by Captain Yousef Ahmed Mohammed Al Hammadi, came in fourth place with 10 points after finishing runner-up in the first round and eighth in the second.
