In the 2022-2023 season of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (60ft), the crew of "Al Shaqi" boat no. 96, owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council, and led by Khalaf Butti Musabeh Al-Ghasheesh Al-Marri, has secured the top position in the overall standings.
At the conclusion of each season, the Dubai International Marine Club publishes the overall rankings for the traditional races in Dhow sailing - 60ft, 43ft, and 22ft categories, as well as the traditional rowing race (30ft). These championships take place during the marine sports season from September until the culmination of activities in May.
The overall rankings list carries significant importance as it fosters a competitive atmosphere, motivating participants to vie for the lowest average points and strive to attain the leading position in the Dubai Championship.
The crew of boat no. 96 "Al Shaqi" continued its impressive winning streak in the Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, claiming the top spot in the overall standings with 8 points earned from their performances in the three championship rounds.
Amidst intense competition, the "Zilzal 25" boat, owned by Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, head of the National Information Office, secured the second position with Captain Marwan Abdullah Muhammad Jumaa Al Marzouqi leading the crew to a total of 14 points after finishing in 8th place in the first round, followed by two 3rd place finishes in the second round and the 32nd Al Gaffal Race."
Meanwhile, "Zayurikh 120," owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council, fiercely competed for the lead, skippered by Khalifa Muhair Saeed Saif Al Mazrouei, securing the third spot with 17 points. Their achievements included a fifth-place finish in the first round, as well as two sixth-place finishes in the second round and the 32nd Al Gaffal Race.
The Dubai Championship for the Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (60ft) in the 2022-2023 season consists of three rounds. The first round was held on the 15th of October 2022 and was won by "Al Shaqi 96". The second round took place on the 25th of February 2023, with "Shaheen 57" claiming the victory. Finally, the third and final round during the 32nd edition of the Al Gaffal Race, occurred on the 30th of May 2023, and crowned as the winner is boat no. 211 "Namran" .
