(DIMC) bid a farewell to a successful year 2022

Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) recorded a great distinction for the year 2022 achieving an excellent organization of the local and international events wherein the club is known since 1998.

In line with the directives and follow-up of the Board of Directors, headed by Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar to the approved strategic plan 2021-2027, the club was keen to implement innovation and initiatives that were achieved in the current season and looking forward to a new achievement in the year 2023.  

The sporting event organized by Dubai International Marine Club attracted the interest of marine sports enthusiasts wherein the calendar for the year 2022 was filled with a variety of activities from local sports such as traditional dhow sailing in 60ft, 43ft, 22ft, traditional rowing race 30ft and modern races such as Aquabike, Kitesurfing , Kayaking, Stand Up Paddling, Virtual Rowing and Fishing Competition. 

The 31st Al Gaffal Long Distance Race which was organized by the club under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, was held last June with the participation of 118 boats and hailed as the winner is boat no. 199 Hasheem which attracted the spotlight of local and international media.  

This year also the Dubai International Marine Club received a letter of appreciation for its historical and influential role in establishing and spreading the concept of marine sports thru nurturing and refining talents by giving opportunities and creating competitions that would preserve the popular heritage sports with the aspiration and directives of the wise leadership in the United Arab Emirates during the session of Dubai International Heritage Sports Exhibition and Conference.  

The Board of Directors of DIMC was also keen to meet the sailors and boat owners participating in the traditional races by holding an open meeting in Jumeirah Majilis in Umm Suqeim to hear their views and opinions about the races.   \


Initiatives

During the year 2022, DIMC signed a number of cooperation agreements among the Government Department and National Institutions such as Beit Al Khair Society, Dubai Ladies Club, and P&O Marinas in order to enhance the strategic partnership and to develop marine sports by providing support in various fields.   


People of Determination

DIMC organized last March 2022 the Kayak and Stand Up Paddling event for :" We Paddle for People of Determination" in cooperation with the Dubai Club for People of Determination and Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination which achieved a huge success with the participation of the Stars of our national team in Special Olympics.

Al Asifa 36 (Local Category) and Ahed Oman 44 (Open Category) were crowned as champion of the 26th Al Maktoum Cup Traditional Rowing Race for the season 2022-2023.

 

International

At the beginning of 2022, DIMC organized the first round of the UIM international Aquabike Championship on its fifth year being held in the UAE along with the celebration of the UIM centennial year, founded last 1922.

The UIM as well used the Photo of the XCAT Racing taken during the Race in Dubai showing the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel with the slogan for their centenarian celebration which was sent as postcards to 64 national federations and global institutions.

During the General Assembly of the UIM held in Fujairah, Mohammed Harib the CEO of DIMC will continue to be a member of the  Environmental, Solar, and Electric Working Group 

DIMC received well-known visitors at its headquarters including the  Secretary General of the UIM,   Thomas Kurth.

DIMC organized for the first time the Open Virtual Rowing Championship in cooperation with Powerfit Gym during the 26th edition of the Al Maktoum Cup Traditional Rowing Race.

DIMC participated as one of the Golden Sponsors at the second edition of the Dubai Duty-Free in Modern Sailing (SB20) which was successfully organized by the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) with the participation of international and local teams.

DOSC in cooperation with DIMC organized for the first time the Al Gaffal Modern Sailing Yacht Challenge during the 31st Al Gaffal Race with the participation of 12 countries such as the USA, Australia, South Africa, Britain, Italy, France, Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, Portugal, and Ukraine, in addition to the UAE locals.

In 2022, DIMC successfully obtained the  ISO 45001-2018 certificate for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, after conforming to the standards from the Swiss Foundation (QSZ) for certification services. 

DIMC received as well honor from the Higher committee Of the Oceanman Dubai - International Open Water Swimming for the great logistic support during the competition.  


2024

100 male and female elite Kite surfers competed in the Dubai Kitesurf Open in which we witnessed the24 year old  World Champion (2021) and European Champion (2022) Theo de Ramcourt.
