DIMC congratulates UIM on 100th anniversary

"This year, 2022, the UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) celebrates its 100th anniversary since its founding year in 1922, in Brussel, the capital of Belgium. "

On behalf of DIMC and all the powerboat racing enthusiasts, Mohammed  Hareb, CEO of DIMC & a member of the Environmental Working Group in the UIM, would like to congratulate the Board of Directors of the International Federation on the occasion of its 100 year anniversary.

He said that the club is pleased and honored to celebrate with the UIM along with the ongoing partnership since 1990, as the first Arab-Middle Eastern club to obtain International Membership which inaugurated the organization of the global event in Dubai water's in 1992 until today.  

He confirmed that the club will put the centenary logo, which was approved by the Board of Directors of the UIM,  and will be used throughout the activities and events held under the umbrella of the UIM to celebrate its 100 years of excellence.

It is worth mentioning that the beaches of Dubai witnessed last December 2021, the second & final round of the UIM XCAT World Powerboat Championship - Dubai Grand Prix which gained a huge success.

1922

In 1922 by a Scot, Dr. Morton Smart, and by John Ward. An expatriate Irishman living in Belgium, Ward acted as the first Secretary-General of the new organization, while Alfred Pierrard, Director General of the Belgian Ministry of Marine, was elected first President of the International Motor Yachting Union, its first official name.


1927

In 1927,  the Federation had acquired a permanent administrative base, promulgated its first sporting rules, published its first racing calendar, and further changing its name to the now-familiar Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), who was ready to welcome more nations into its fold.


1988 

In 1988 in conjunction with the establishment of the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), the Belgian Secretary-General, José Mawet, completed transferring the UIM Office from Brussels to Monaco, within multisport complex Stade Louis II, in Fontvieille.  


1990
On the 10th of March 1990,  Saeed Harib,  the current Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council and the CEO that time in DIMC went to visit Monaco, to officially join the International Federation, making the DIMC the first Arab-Middle Eastern club to obtain such membership.
