DIMC Shares Expertise in Modern Sailing During School Visit

18 January 2024

The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) conducted a school visit to introduce marine sports, showcasing the events it hosts and organizes through a specialized demonstration of Modern Sailing. The club successfully completed the introductory program during its periodic visit to schools in Dubai, starting with South View School Dubai. The two-day event was attended by 450 male and female students, actively participating in an intensive course led by Yousuf Khalid Albastaki, the Coach Leader at Victory Team Academy in DIMC.

Mohammed Harib, a Board Member, and Chief Executive Officer of DIMC followed up on the program at the school. During this visit, he presented an honorary shield to David Flint, Principal of South View School in Dubai, in appreciation of the school's support for this initiative and to explore broader horizons for future cooperation.

Al Bastaki stated that the initiative achieved its desired goals by introducing the heritage and history of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) linked to the life in the sea, the source of goodness, and abundant livelihood. The role of the Club in reviving popular heritage was highlighted through marine races that embody the past.

He added that these visits and initiatives are part of the efforts of the Board of Directors at the DIMC, led by Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, to promote the concept of marine sports and to discover talents, by providing them with opportunities for specialized education and training.

During the visit, DIMC’s delegation presented Modern Sailing boats to the students, introducing their categories, boat parts, and sailing methods theoretically by Coach Al Bastaki, along with video training sessions.

DIMC received tremendous interest from the students and the Sports Department at South View School to join any programs or training courses organized by the club in the future. Their aim is to discover future talents and participate within the club teams in various competitions, especially in Modern Sailing.

South View School officials welcomed such initiatives that align with the institution’s objectives of making education enjoyable and enabling its students to be successful, responsible individuals capable of facing challenges, and healthy athletes open to various sports.
