Dubai has taken center stage with its stunning beaches as the host for the international marine race overseen by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). Following the successful organization of its first event last January, the UIM, in coordination with the Dubai International Marine Club, has set a new date for the XCAT World Powerboat Championship – Dubai Grand Prix, which is set to take place from 13-15 December , 2024.
Dubai Island is set to host its first international marine sporting event in December, which will be followed by the UAE International Aquabike Championship in January next year, featuring participants from 12 countries across the continents. The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) is preparing for the XCAT Dubai Grand Prix in December, with 10 boats and 20 drivers from various countries worldwide.
Mohammed Abdullah Harib Al Falahi, Board Member and CEO of DIMC, stated that the high level of trust in Dubai and the Dubai International Marine Club reflects Dubai’s status as the premier destination for marine sports in the region, as well as in the Middle East and Asia.
He emphasized that the club, established in 1988 and becoming the first Arab and Middle Eastern club to gain membership in UIM in the early 1990s, has played a key role in developing various marine racing categories (such as powerboats, jet skis, sailing, rowing, and traditional/heritage races). Alongside Victory Team, a renowned name in marine racing, the club has contributed to creating legends and championships.
He noted that the international organization’s trust in choosing Dubai for the first event of the 2024 season and as the final destination for the year's events increases the enthusiasm to continue on the path of excellence and make a unique mark in various championships and events. He pointed out that early preparations are underway to ensure the success of the Dubai Grand Prix, which represents the grand finale of the 2024 international racing season.
It is worth noting that the World Powerboat Championship is witnessing an intense battle for the top spot, with the Swedish boat Swecat 2 currently leading with 96 points, followed by the Italian boat HPI Fujairah 96 with 78 points, and the UAE boat Victory 7 in third place with 77 points.
