31 January 2024

Dubai Watersports Day returns to the shores of Dubai Islands on Saturday & Sunday as part of the sports season 2023-2024 organized by the Dubai International Marine Club.

Dubai Island beach is hosting a diverse watersports festival, featuring various community events that aim to bring together different segments of society and enthusiasts, coinciding with the fourth season of the World Coolest Winter.

Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Sports Club, expressed his anticipation for the upcoming distinguished sports festivity - the "Dubai Watersports Day." This event holds significance in the club's season calendar, following its successful run last year, characterized by a variety of beach and water activities. The festival is expected to unite sea enthusiasts on the shores of the Dubai Islands, attracting both the public eager to engage in water sports and those interested in observing the events. Additionally, several national institutions are set to participate in this exciting occasion.

Al Marri revealed that Dubai Watersports Day includes five events, with the most significant being the UAE Modern Rowing Race (third round of the UAE Championship 2023-2024). This race is held under the supervision of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation (UAESARF) and brings together elite champions in the sport, representing clubs, teams, and academies. They will compete on Saturday to vie for titles in 14 different categories in the Olympic Classic Rowing Race, along with the General Excellence Cup, which is awarded to the club or team with the highest points.

The Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Club added that the club will organize the Dubai Kitesurf Competition for the seventh consecutive season on the upcoming Saturday and Sunday. This event will be conducted under the supervision of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation (UAESARF), led by Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, and in cooperation with the Emirates Kiteboarding Association (EKA) with four categories: Twin Tip, Freestyle, Hydrofoil, and Wind Foil.

Al Marri confirmed that the upcoming activities will feature the Dubai Kayak Boats Fishing Tournament next Saturday, a significant community event that brings together enthusiasts of this sport with various fishing kayaks, including single or double kayaks, regular or those equipped with electric motors.

He added, "The organizing committee is closely monitoring the weather forecast to ensure the safety of all participants. Registration is now open for the tournament through the link sent via SMS. Participants will compete in two categories: Kingfish Competition (fish weight should not be less than 5 kg) and the heaviest total weight in three types of fish - Barracuda Fish, Queen Fish, and Golden Trevally (each weight should not be less than one kilogram). The competition will take place on Saturday, starting from six in the morning until three-thirty in the afternoon.

Al Marri extended an open invitation to everyone to partake in this distinctive sporting experience within a competitive atmosphere. The events include the Stand Up Paddle and Kayak Race, allowing participants to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere in the "Dubai Watersports Day" village on Dubai Islands beach.
