“Eklaa” Champion in the Opening Race of the season

Last Saturday, the Dubai International Marine Club marked a successful launching of the new season 2020-2021 by organizing the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race.

The race witnessed a participation of 30 boats carrying 150 young people who competed in two categories the Junior and the Youth sailing together amidst the strict precautionary measure applied in accordance with the protocol issued by Dubai Sports Council, the official sport’s governing body in Dubai. The committee was keen to implement all precautionary measure at all times including avoiding crowd and maintaining the social distancing, wearing a mask and taking the temperature.

The boat no. 118 Eklaa owned by Saif Ebrahim Hassan Al Marzouqi and skippered by Ahmad Younes Abdulla Al Hamadi who led the team to take off the first position in the Youth category against its rival boat no. 105 Hujoom owned and skippered by Suhail Abdulla Al Hamadi who took the second spot. On the third position is boat no. 85 Barq owned by Jaber Mohamed Jaber Al Hamadi and led by Hamza Al Ali.

In the Junior Category the first to arrive was the boat no. 21 Toofan owned by Ahmed Ismail Al Marzouqi and skippered by Zayed Sultan Al Dhaheri who took the first position against the boat no. 24 Serab owned by Mohamed Abdul Aziz Al Hamadi led by his son Abdulrahman. And on the third position on this category is the boat no. 90 owned by Abdullah Sultan Almarzooqi led by his son Sultan.


The race took place in the afternoon at the waterfront of Dubai Beach with amazing view of the Burj Khalifa skyline and the finish line near the Burj Al Arab Hotel with a race distance of 5 nautical miles.

The second round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race was scheduled next year 2021, in the ninth of January, as per the approved calendar.
