First Round of 22ft Dhow Sailing Race on Friday

Dubai International Marine Club will host the first round of the  22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race under the marine sports season 2019-2020.  The organizing committee at DIMC announced the opening of registration to those who are interested to participate in the upcoming race which will start from today until next Thursday, which is the closing day for registration before announcing the list of Participants. 


The first round of the 22ft dhow race include two categories such as the junior which ages 8-16 years and the youth from  8-21 years old, the division system has started the last season and to be implemented in the current season which aim to train and produce the new generation of the young sailors that will bring success in this competition in the future.

As per the DIMC Racing Calendar the first round is set to kick off on Friday and the next round will take place on 2020, at the end of February. 


The organizing committee has started to coordinate with the various government departments and national institutions, which always stand behind the success of all the events organized by the club in different categories.
 

The first 22ft Dhow Sailing Race was established by DIMC with the blessing of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, on October 1, 1999.

 The first race held on the shores of Dubai at the time  we witnessed a great success the 16 boats participants and the first win by the boat "Hiaf" led by the skipper Rashid Mohammed Rashid Al Rumaithi.

It is worth mentioning that the last sporting season 2018-2019 witnessed the application of a new system in the 22ft Dhow Sailing Race with the adaptation of two categories (youth 8-21 years and juniors 8-16 years) wherein winning the overall is the boat no. 80 "Al Serb" led by Al Hur Rashid Khadim Al Muhairi with 17 points total.
