Registration Closes today for the Second Round of Traditional Rowing Race

Registration closes today for the second round of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Race 30ft which is organized by Dubai International Marine Club tomorrow at Dubai Water Canal within the current sports season 2022-2023.

The upcoming race on Saturday is important for the boat owners, captains, and sailors as it represents the final stage of the qualifying rounds for the top 20 boats to compete in the 26th edition of the Al Maktoum Cup Traditional Rowing Race (30ft).

In the first round of the competition for the Dubai Traditional Rowing Race (30ft) which took place last October, Al Asifa (36) won first place in the Local Category while the boat KHK (54) from the Kingdom of Bahrain won the Open Category.

The upcoming race will bring together 40 boats that will compete in two categories such as the Local and the Open Category.

The registration procedure started off early this week and will be until today prior to the race on Saturday. Yesterday, the committee held an online briefing with the racers to discuss prior the race instruction, course and the schedule led by the Race Director, Mohamed Al Marri.

The upcoming race will be held on Saturday in Dubai Water Canal towards the entrance to Dubai Creek Harbor opposite of the Wildlife Sanctuary with a race distance of 2.7 KM as per the race course.

The Dubai Traditional Rowing Race (30ft) started way back 1996-1997 when the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum directed the implementation of this race  held for the first time on 7th of March 1997 with the participation of 15 boats and hailed as the winner is boat no. 2 Fateh Al Maeen skippered by Khalifa Ali Al Nezr.
