Hamdan Bin Rashid raises the prize to 12 Million Dirhams for Al Gaffal Race

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum , the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance has raised the value of the prize for the 29th Al Gaffal Long Distance Race to 12 Million AED instead of 10 Million AED  which will start next week .


His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the sponsor of the event, said that the decision comes in recognition of the boundless reply from the skippers and owners in participating the race which increase this year  , this will assure that the message of His Highness will remain in the memory of the next generations inherited by their children from grandparents from one year to another. 


The Organizing Committe of the 29th Al Gaffal, which is held under the auspices of His Highness and organized by the Dubai International Marine Club has announced the closing of registration to participate in the event with a total of 130 boat to participate in the most awaited race which is delayed due to the bad weather forecast and expected to announce the new timetable today (Friday) by the organizing committee.

The announcement of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance for his generous addition to the prize yesterday afternoon (Thursday) received by the delegation of the Organizing Committee the big event in the Al Fahidi boat lead by the presence of Ali Nasser Belhabala,  Vice Chairman of the Dubai International Marine Club and Vice Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee with the Board Members Huraiz Al Mur Bin Huraiz the President of the UAEMSF and Mohammed Harib the CEO of DIMC, Ibrahim Al Haddad - MOB with Hezaim Al Gemzi the Director of Sports Department at DIMC and Mohammed Al Shamsi, the acting CEO. 

The meeting also is attended by Obaid Humaid Al Muhairi , Director of the Palace of the Office of His Highness the Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance in addition to the veteran sailor Obaid Saeed Al Tayer , who was crowned twice in the races the closing in 1992 and 2009 and  the young captain Mohammed Saeed Mattar Al Tayer.

A declaration of the new prize gives a great joy to the marine sports enthusiast who extends their appreciation for the generosity of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , who was behind the idea of establishing the Al Gaffal Race since 1991 which continue to bring a story of a great success year after year. 

Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar , Chairman of Dubai International Marine Club and Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee in behalf of the DIMC and marine sports enthusiast family  express his sincere gratitude and appreciation towards His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance for the generous increase and raise in the closing race awards on its 29th edition , which everyone awaits after its launching. 

He said that His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum has always been behind the success of all the race since 1991 and continue to support which continue to abundantly support the event from year to year until its reach its 29th edition . And all thanks to His great support and generosity in ensuring that the message will be past on from generation to generation which embodies the emirates heritage and culture past from their parents and grandparents. 

The DIMC Chairman said that this year was a great turnout wherein the club was able to gather 130 boats to participate in the annual Al Gaffal Long Distance Race which increase from year to year since its beginning at 1991 which reflects a positive response from all the people dedicated in reviving the great cultural heritage in which they find the great desire to develop and ensure all the needed equipment for the success of the great race.

Meanwhile while the participants are waiting for the start of the Al Gaffal race on its 29th edition wherein the committee will release a decision regarding the start where everyone awaits to win the cash prize of 12 Millions Dirhams.

1991

Order of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance organized a heritage race great long distance embodies the past panel and highlights the past , parents and grandparents of successive generations and launched the first race with the participation of 53 boats competed for the prize money, which reached a total in the first version to 3 million dirhams.

1992

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance is preparing to organize a joint race in the third version combining the sailing boats 43 feet and local sailing ships 60 feet.


1993

In response to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance completed building owners and skipper with 16 boats loaded with local sailing ships 60 feet to participate alongside with 43ft local sailing boats in the third edition

1994

After it became clear after the event the patron HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance looked over to move to larger sizes of bearings race was held with the participation of the 60ft dhow boat and in recognition of His Highness ordered an increase of financial awards for up to four million dirhams

1994

Thanks to the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai , held the race for the fourth category bearings sailing ships 60 feet only after the success of the first test race in the third race to continue after it regularly

1997

In the seventh edition and continue with the attention of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance with the adoption of a new marine sports category is the local rowing boat race 30ft 

1999

With access to the tenth edition is His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and the launch of a new class sailing boats are 22 feet which will revive the heritage.

2006

Order of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance to increase the sixteenth edition awards from four million dirhams to 6 million dirhams to encourage the continuity of the event.

2007

Order of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance to increase the seventeenth edition of AED 6 million awards to 10 million dirhams in recognition of the growing demand from boat owners

2014

To celebrate the great historic accomplishment of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Crown Prince and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council , the golden ability global games equestrian and progress (Normandy 2014) and under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Chairman of Al Maktoum Charity was held on Saturday , 25 October 2014 the race for 60ft traditional dhow sailing boats

2016

Under the directives of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance was added three luxury cars to the owners of the top three positions in the closing race prizes in kind value raised from the spirit of competition.

2019

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance announced an increase in the closing race awards in the twenty - ninth edition , to become 12 million dirhams instead of ten million.
