Jumeirah Beach will host the 32nd Al Gaffal Race Village

21 May 2023

The organizing committee of the 32nd Al Gaffal Long Distance Race is continuing its preparations and arrangements for the highly anticipated event of the season, wherein the Heritage Village for the race will be hosted at Jumeirah Beach. The event is scheduled to take place from Friday to the following Sunday. The race starts from Sir Bu Nair Island and ends at the Dubai Coast.

The prestigious race is held under the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. It is organized by the Dubai International Marine Club as the season finale for 2022-2023. This event is the largest, most prestigious, and most significant in terms of participation, embodying a tribute to the heritage of their ancestors and a message to future generations, based on the legacy of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Ali Saeed bin Thalith, a member of the organizing committee of the 32nd Al Gaffal Race, expressed his appreciation for the generous support and great attention given by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai. This support has had a positive impact on the progress of the race, which evolves every year leading up to the current 32nd edition.

Bin Thalith stated that the organizing committee is keen to promote this race and involve various segments of society through their plans, which include the establishment of the race heritage village. The village will be ready before the start date at its new location on the vibrant shores of Jumeirah, near the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel and adjacent to Umm Suqeim Park. This will allow the public and Dubai's beach enthusiasts to become acquainted with this heritage.

He further emphasized that the race village will include a main hall for VIP guests and an event hall showcasing ancient crafts related to maritime life and various professions associated with the lives of Emiratis. Additionally, Mustafa Al Fardan, a heritage researcher, will present his collection exhibition, highlighting the role of "Al Tawash" and displaying rare pearls and their varieties.

Bin Thalith mentioned that the club, in its continuous cooperation with Dubai Media Corporation, will provide excellent service to viewers and spectators through live broadcasts of the event on its various channels. The "Al Gaffal 32" studio will be set up to serve the institution in the main hall, providing an evening program in addition to covering the stages and details of the race from early morning until the closing ceremony.

He added that the site will witness the grand finale of the race on the honorary podium, where the front runners of the race will be awarded valuable prizes, including luxury cars, to the top five winners.

Bin Thalith concluded by stating that the organizing committee will announce several accompanying events in the coming days to attract the public and introduce them to the significance of this event. It is an opportunity for them to appreciate and celebrate the legacy of their forefathers, which was intertwined with the sea as a source of goodness and abundant livelihood.

It is worth mentioning that the organizing committee makes annual efforts to reach out to the public and introduce them to the event through the establishment of the race village where the celebration is held for the safe arrival of our sailors from their journey. Champions will be awarded with the prestigious trophy and luxury cars.
