A marine parade festivity to commemorate the convening of "COP 28"

The UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation (UAESARF) and Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) have announced a marine festivity, including a water parade for rowing boats of various types, scheduled for next Saturday, December 2, 2023. The event aims to raise awareness of environmental preservation, climate issues, and sustainability, coinciding with the country's hosting of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation (UAESARF), has confirmed that the United Arab Emirates will host the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), commencing on Thursday at Expo City and continuing until December 12. This upcoming event is a historic occasion and a significant milestone that enhances the status of our country, appreciating the efforts of the wise leadership that enabled sustainability by declaring 2023 as the 'Year of Sustainability'.

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan clarified that the collaborative effort between the UAE Sailing & Rowing Federation (UAESARF) and the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) to organize the marine festivity through a rowing parade is a significant contribution from the sports sector to mark this global event. It serves as a message to society, fostering awareness of climate issues and emphasizing our commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation. This effort reflects our belief in the sports sector's important role in achieving these goals through the practice of environmentally friendly races.

The President of the UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Chairman and Members of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club for their coordination and collective efforts in bringing this initiative to realization. This collaborative endeavor has materialized through meticulous planning and dedicated work, ensuring the success of the event that will unite men and women players from national rowing teams.

Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club, highlighted that the United Arab Emirates is currently experiencing an exceptional period during the celebration of the 52nd UAE National Day marked by remarkable achievements, positioning itself as one of the most advanced countries globally. During this period, the nation hosts leaders and presidents to engage in discussions about future solutions, particularly focusing on the forthcoming Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28). 

Bin Meshar emphasized that the collaborative effort in orchestrating the rowing parade, involving the  UAE Sailing and Rowing Federation and the Dubai International Marine Club, symbolizes the sports sector's commemoration of the conference. It serves as an affirmation of the sport sector's awareness and interest, showcasing its capacity to contribute to a prosperous future by endorsing sustainability through environmental friendly races this includes various watersports activities such as modern sailing, rowing boats, and other eco-friendly recreational equipment.

It is expected that an elite group of leaders in the sports field and a number of state guests participating in the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) will join the upcoming parade next Saturday. Additionally, elite local club players and national team stars from various categories are expected to participate. The event will commence from Dubai Marina waters starting at the headquarters of the Dubai International Marine Club on the Dubai Harbour. The route will extend to Bluewaters Island before returning to the club headquarters.

It is worth noting that this year, the Dubai International Marine Club received the 'Sustainability in Sports' award during the ninth session of the 'Dubai Sports Excellence Model,' organized by the Dubai Sports Council. This recognition is attributed to the club's commitment to sustainability in its operations, given that 79% of the events organized by the club are environmental friendly races.
