Registration continues for Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Races

10 January 2024

The organizing committee at Dubai International Marine Club is continuing its preparations to organize the club’s first event in 2024, scheduled this Friday and Saturday. The event will feature two traditional dhow sailing races under the current sports season 2023-2024, in conjunction with the world's most beautiful winter campaign.

Marine sports enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating a heritage festivity, beginning with the second round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (22ft) on Friday, followed by the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (60ft) on Saturday.

The two events have garnered significant interest from boat owners, captains, and sailors due to their importance. The 22ft dhow sailing race serves as an academy for future champions in this sport, while the 60ft Dhow sailing race sees the strongest boats competing in a 20 nautical miles race course.

The organizing committee has announced the early completion of the registration process for participation through the club’s website. Registration for the 22ft Dhow Sailing Race will close tomorrow (Thursday), while the registration process for the 60ft Dhow Sailing Race will continue until Friday, just before the announcement of the entry list.

The crew of the boat Al Tabr 55, led by Mohammad Suhail Al Muhairi, secured the second place, while the crew of the boat no. 211 Namran, led by Ali Abdullah Al-Marzouki, finished in the third position.

This event witnessed the crowning of the boat "Zilzal 77," owned by Marwan Abdullah Al-Marzouki and led by his son Abdullah, as the champion of the youth category (under 21 years of age). Additionally, the boat "Falah 25," owned by Abdulaziz Al Hammadi and captained by Mohammed Al Hammadi, secured first place in the junior category (under 16 years old).
