The registration procedure to participate in the 33rd edition of the Al Gaffal 60ft Traditional Dhow Sailing Race will begin tomorrow, which is being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, from May 11th to 19th.
The Dubai International Marine Club has been organizing this race since 1991, starting from Sir Bu Na’air Island, passing through Moon Island, and finishing at the Dubai shore, covering a distance of more than 50 nautical miles.
The organizing committee of the race has announced that registration will start tomorrow and continue until next Wednesday (May 8th) through the club’s website. This registration includes registration for boats, tow boats, and sailors. Participants will also receive a copy of the race instructions and regulations implemented on Sir Bu Na’air Island.
Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at Dubai International Marine Club, welcomed the owners, captains, and sailors participating in the 33rd Gaffal Race, expecting a huge turnout of participation among all segments of society in the UAE, as it has been a unique heritage festival in the sporting event since 1991.
Al Marri stated that the Support Committee, one of the subcommittees for the success of the race, in which he supervises, has completed the necessary preparations for the launching of the event from 11th to 19th of May. He stressed that the opening of registration will mark the real beginning of the work to register the participants and respond to all their inquiries before the race day.
He called on the owners and sailors to complete all documents and requirements for registration and to provide the organizing committee with the crew lists and documents of the participating dhow and boats accompanying the race. He reminded that the boat owners and sailors must review and adhere to the rules and regulations of the race.
