The spotlight is on the second round of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Race - 30ft, happening today at the Dubai Water Canal, near Jaddaf Walk, and at the entrance to Dubai Creek in Wildlife Sanctuary. The race, starting at 3:00 PM, is organized by the Dubai International Marine Club as part of its season's events calendar.
The event features 41 boats with up to 400 sailors, including UAE citizens, brothers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and local residents passionate about the sport. Competitors will battle it out in two categories: the local class round, reserved for boats representing the UAE, and the open class round, which welcomes teams from government departments, national institutions, and GCC countries.
This race is especially significant for owners, captains, and sailors, as it serves as the final qualifying round for the most prestigious event in the rowing calendar—the 28th edition of the Al Maktoum Traditional Rowing Race, set to take place on November 30.
In last week’s first round, Ghazi 96, captained by Ahmed Saeed Al Rumaithi, secured first place in the local class round, earning 30 points to take the lead. In the open class round, the Omani boat Belarab 44, led by Hamid Salem Al Bahri, claimed victory, also earning 30 points.
