XCAT World Championship returns to Dubai in December

12 March 2024

The XCAT Championship – Dubai Grand Prix returns to Dubai's shores this December after being officially announced as the final round of the 2024 World Championship.

Hosting this event aligns with the directives and vision of the Dubai International Marine Club's board of directors, aiming to attract major international championships. It also signifies significant support for the Victory Team, which has returned to compete in the championship this year, as well as for all other UAE teams.

The Victory Team has made a successful comeback in the first round of the championship by winning the Fujairah Grand Prix after a two-season hiatus, during which the team still holds the record for the most title wins (5 times).

The Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club, led by Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, welcomed the signing of the contract to host the final round of the World Championship for a three-year period starting this year, with the final leg scheduled for December 6th-8th according to the event's calendar.

The contract signing ceremony took place at the Dubai International Marine Club in the presence of Mohammed Harib, a board member and CEO of DIMC, along with Thomas Kurth, the Secretary-General of the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM), and several officials.

Harib conveyed that the return of the XCAT World Championship to Dubai's shores marks a momentous occasion, celebrating the pivotal role played by the United Arab Emirates and the Dubai International Marine Club. The club has served as the catalyst for this event's emergence onto the world stage from the waters of the UAE, propelling it to become a premier event recognized by the UIM.

He underscored the Dubai International Marine Club's unwavering commitment to the success of past editions, consistently providing support to teams and committees. Additionally, he highlighted the club's eagerness to host the final round since the championship's global inception in 2010, steadfastly embracing the event in the editions of 2012 to 2019, and 2021.

Furthermore, he noted that the board of directors had initiated early preparations for hosting the World Championship, ensuring its success aligns with the club's prestigious standing. Since its affiliation with the International Union - UIM - in the early nineties, the club has garnered global acclaim for its excellence in organizing major events in the World Championships across various speedboat categories, including XCAT and Formula 1.
