Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) has announced the opening of registration for the first round of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Race, scheduled to take place on Saturday in the Al Jaddaf area near the Wildlife Sanctuary. The event comes as part of the club’s current season, featuring a wide range of marine races and activities.
Mohammed Harib, CEO of DIMC, emphasized that the club continuously focuses on motivating the community to participate in this type of race—especially as it coincides with the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30x30. He noted that the organizing committee has approved the inclusion of both Open and Local categories this year.
He said: “The Dubai Traditional Rowing Race is one of our most prominent events, attracting participants from various nationalities. The turnout continues to grow each year as we aim to raise competitive standards. We look forward to launching this year’s competition with the first round at Al Jaddaf, a location known for its remarkable views of iconic Dubai landmarks, especially the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, the largest public library of its kind in the region.
The club has circulated participation guidelines and provided the registration link under the supervision of the Race Management Committee. The approved race categories include the Open Category—featuring teams from government and private institutions—allowing one captain and eight rowers of all nationalities. GCC teams may also participate with the same number of crew members, provided they share the nationality of the GCC country they represent or are residents of that country. Meanwhile, the Local Category, is designated exclusively for rowers from the United Arab Emirates.
Technical inspections will be carried out on all participating boats before the start of the race to ensure compliance with safety and technical regulations, with special emphasis on safety equipment to guarantee the protection of all participants.
The Race Management will also conduct a draw to determine starting positions, and the official race course will be shared with all teams with strict instructions to adhere to it.
Additionally, the club will present the “Ideal Team Award” at the end of the season, based on criteria including team uniformity, environmental cleanliness, sportsmanship, and adherence to the official schedule throughout the season.
