The boat “Hasheem 153”, owned and captained by Hassan Abdullah Mohammed Juma Al Marzouki, was crowned champion of the third round of the Dubai 43ft Sailing Dhow Race, organized by the Dubai International Marine Club, with the participation of 25 boats featuring an elite group of captains and sailors who competed in the waters of Dubai all the way to the shores of Jumeirah.
The competition was intense, as participating boats adhered to the new technical updates that contributed to increasing the level of competitiveness, while also taking advantage of the relatively strong winds. In the remaining positions, “Zilzal 217”, owned and captained by Marwan Abdullah Mohammed Marzouki, secured second place, while “Namran 259”, owned and captained by Abdullah Mohammed Jumaa Marzouki, finished third.
Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at Dubai International Marine Club, presented the awards to the top finishers and praised the participants’ performances, saying:
“The accumulated experience of captains and sailors has raised the pace of competition to the highest levels, allowing us to witness a race that reflects the continuous development of sailing dhows, particularly in the 43ft category. This is the category for which Dubai International Marine Club was keen to organize a third dedicated race this season, considering the technical changes to the boats and the growing desire of more captains to participate and experience these adjustments, which come as part of the ongoing updates aimed at developing marine sports.”
Al Marri expressed his appreciation to the supporting entities of the race, foremost among them Dubai Police General Headquarters, the Coast Guard, Dubai Civil Defense, Dubai Sports Council, Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, Dubai Sports Channels, VIP Doctor, and others. He emphasized that the cooperation among national institutions serves the goal of supporting youth participation in marine sports and fostering creativity, helping preserve and pass on the heritage of fathers and grandfathers to future generations through these annual competitions.
Hassan Abdullah Al Marzouki, the first-place winner, expressed his gratitude to Dubai International Marine Club for organizing three races for this category in the current season, noting that this positively contributes to the development of one of the most important and prominent sailing categories. It also enhances the level of sailors and strengthens competition among them, as reflected in the exchange of top podium positions across the three races. The first race was won by “Sahm 170”, owned by Abdullah Ibrahim Al Hammadi and captained by Ahmed Yousuf Al Hammadi, while the second race was won by “Zilzal 217”, owned and captained by Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouki.
For his part, Captain Marwan Abdullah Al Marzouki confirmed that the overall results of the current season have been positive. In the under-43ft category in particular, he secured first place in the second round and now achieved second place in the third round, maintaining a consistent presence in the circle of competition. He attributed this to continuous determination and the desire to always aim for podium finishes, as well as ensuring that the practice of this sport continues among the younger generations.
Dubai International Marine Club’s activities are set to continue throughout the current season. This month will witness the staging of “Dubai Watersports Day”, whose events will be announced soon and will include several competitions during an exciting weekend next week, alongside other activities and races that will be held throughout the season.
