The Dubai International Marine Club has announced the opening of registration for the second round of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Race, scheduled for next Saturday at the Dubai Healthcare City Promenade Phase 2 in the Al Jaddaf .  Strong competition is expected in both the local and open categories.

The organizing committee has approved two heats for the local category (for Emiratis) and the open category (for government and private institutions). The number of races rounds may increase depending on the number of registered participants. Two heats were held in the first round of the local category after 26 boats registered, while a total of 42 boats participated in that round.

The organizing committee announced the arrangements for the second round, most notably requiring all participating boats to clearly display their dhow number on the stern. Technical inspections will be conducted on all participating boats before the start of the race. A draw will also be held to determine the starting order of the competitors, ensuring transparency and fairness in all aspects of the competition. Mohammed Al Marri, Director of Sports Affairs at Dubai International Marine Club, confirmed that the upcoming round of the Dubai Traditional Rowing Boat Race is a significant milestone, given the steadily rising skill levels of the participants following the first round. He added that intensive preparations are underway for the 29th Al Maktoum Cup Traditional Rowing Boat Race, scheduled for December 27th.

He stated, “Rowing is one of the most enjoyable and challenging marine sports on our annual sporting calendar. The close competition among the participants is reflected in the high level of enthusiasm and the large crowds that flock to the race venues, adding to the overall festive atmosphere. The race has become a wonderful community gathering, bringing together people from the UAE and other Gulf countries to showcase their skills in this traditional sport, passed down through generations.”
