The Dubai International Marine Club has set the new season launching on Saturday, 10th of October 2020, with the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race as the first event of the new marine sports season 2020-2021, which was organized by the club in accordance with the protocol issued by the Dubai Sports Council regarding the pandemic Corona virus.
The Dubai International Marine Club Board of Director had approved the proposed calendar during their monthly meeting yesterday morning (Tuesday) held at the headquarter of Victory Team in Jebel Ali headed by Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Board of Director , with the presence of Saif Juma Al Suwaidi, the Vice Chairman and the members, Rashid Thani Al-Aail and Jamal Zaal bin Kreshan , Essa Mohamed Elhag Nasser, and Khalid Ali Al Balooshi , in addition to that the CEO of DIMC , Mohammed Hareb and Mohammad Al Shamsi, the Director of Admin Corporate Support.
In the monthly meeting of the board of director discussed including in the agenda is the race calendar and the set of activities for the new season 2020-2021, which carries a diverse events developed within the framework of the club and with the interest of the big segments of the society. The club first initiative after the national sterilization period was the Dubai Watersports Summer Week during the month of June and the event “We Paddle for Dubai” at the end of August which was held in the most prestigious boulevard in the Burj Khalifa Water Lake near the dancing fountain show.
It was announced by the organizing committee at the Dubai International Marine Club that on Saturday the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race will take place on Saturday after the decision was made after the committee's first race meeting of the new season. The 22ft Dhow Race will bring together the Youth and Junior in one race , which serve them as academy to practice the sailing sports. The participants will use a small heritage boat with white sails accommodating 4-5 person on board working together to direct the boat towards the finish line which is around 5 nautical miles.
The organizing committee issues a set of instruction and protocol for the upcoming race which adhere to limit the spread of the pandemic coronavirus. This set of instruction was issued by the National Emergency and Crisis and Disasters Management Authority to be implemented to all the sports club and with the approved protocol by the Dubai Sports Council, the official sport’s governing body of the Government of Dubai.
In order to clarify and enlighten all the participants the organizing committee decided to hold a race briefing online with the Race Director, Hazeem Al Gemzi that will explain the race instruction further and will respond to all the inquiries of the participants for the upcoming race since it will be the first activity of the club in the new season.
It is worth mentioning that the Dubai International Marine Club was behind the declaration of this category in 1999 when His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, ordered the launching of a new class for the future generation of aspiring sailors which inherit the skills of their parent and grandparents form their past culture.
The Board of Directors of the Dubai International Marine Club affirmed that the insightful vision drawn by the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, was behind the modern Dubai and his passion to achieve the principles of unity, will remain a beacon that derives the determination of the people of the states.
The club board of Director in its monthly meeting which was held at the headquarter of Victory Team headed Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Board of Directors, appreciates the historical role of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, on the occasion of his 30th death anniversary which falls on the seventh of October. His imprint was present in the marine sports scene when he ordered the construction of the tourist port area which hosted the club headquarter from 1988 and became a global sports icon thanks to the support and attention of the wise leadership.
The monthly meeting held last Tuesday ,chaired by Ahmed Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Board of Director , with the presence of Saif Juma Al Suwaidi, the Vice Chairman and the members, Rashid Thani Al-Aail and Jamal Zaal bin Kreshan , Essa Mohamed Elhag Nasser, and Khalid Ali Al Balooshi , in addition to that the CEO of DIMC , Mohammed Hareb and Mohammad Al Shamsi, the Director of Admin Corporate Support where they discussed a lot of topics on the agenda list.
The Board of Directors approved the proposed race schedule of the marine sports season 2019-2020 with variety of race activity on it from the heritage to the modern races in various categories which nearly 30 events.
The Board of Director also approved the start of the new season 2020-2021 tomorrow (Saturday) with the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race wherein the marine races will continue in the coming months until the conclusion of the 30th version of the Al Gaffal Long Distance Race on May next year which is held under the patronage and support of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance.
This season the Board of Directors directed the Sports Committee that manages the sporting event organized by the club to adhere to all decisions and directives of the Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management in Dubai and to apply all the precautionary measure issued by the Dubai Sports Council in order for all the activities to succeed.

His Excellency Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, Chairman of the Dubai International Marine Club, welcomed all the participants for the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, which is the start of activities and races in the new marine sports season 2020-2021 wherein we will witness witnesses 30 events starting this Saturday until May the next year.

The Chairman of the DIMC stated that the club, after the end of the national sterilization program imposed as the emergency response due to the pandemic Corana virus (COVID-19), the club was the first sporting entity to initiate the resumption of the sports activity in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council after the approval of the health and safety protocol issued by the Supreme Committee for Crisis and Disaster Management In Dubai, where the club organized a successful event : Dubai Watersports Summer Week participated by around 400 athletes in 6 various sporting activities.
Bin Meshar said that today's race embodies a strong return to the club on the map of events inline with that the implementation of all precautionary measures according to the health protocol issued by the Dubai Sports Council, which was recently announced, wherein the organizing committee at the club held a meeting (online) prior to the race to informed all participants of the latest developments, especially to comply with the race instructions and safety measure procedure on and after the race.
The Chairman of the Club Board of Directors concluded in his speech by stressing that today's race, is traditional race which is an important and wonderful stop for the sailor of the new generation , the race will be in youth and junior category together. It will be a long and busy season for the club with its 32nd year since its establishment at 1988.
Jumeirah Beach will witness today -Saturday- this afternoon the launching of the new marine sports season 2020-2021 with the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race.
This race will be the first local heritage event since March due to the pandemic Coronavirus (Covid-19). Today, as the new season will start filled with activities and event by Dubai International Marine Club for the season 2020-2021.
During the summer the club continuously organize a set of activities such as the Dubai Watersports Summer Week with 6 various events , after the end also of the national sterilization program the club held an community sports event , the We Paddle for Dubai for the first time in the Burj Khalif Water Lake and also ythe launching of the Virtual Race, Dubai Virtual Regatta Inshore available on smart application.

The participants of today's race will compete in two categories the Junior and Youth , the 22ft is the sailing academy that enhance their abilities and gain their sailing experiences which aim to prepare the young generations to participate in the other categories of the traditional dhow sailing race.

The race begins today at exactly 3:30 in the afternoon, as for the participants needed to be at the milling area prior to the race where they will arrive at the P&O
Marina in Jumeirah 4 to adhere to all the precautionary measure of the race including the wearing of face mask except for the actual race , using of hand sanitizer, measuring the temperature, avoiding shake hands gesture and crowd, and observing the social distancing of 2m.
The organizing committee of the event, under the supervision of Hazeem Al Gemzi, Director of Sports Department at DIMC , he held a meeting online for all the participants (sailors and boat owner) to explain further the race instruction , race course, safety procedures and answers all the inquiries by the racers during the meeting.

The participants of today's race was divided into two groups the first class is the youth those who are born below 1999 and for the junior category those who are born below 2004

The first race for the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race was held with the participation of 16 boats.
Last Saturday, the Dubai International Marine Club marked a successful launching of the new season 2020-2021 by organizing the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race.
The race witnessed a participation of 30 boats carrying 150 young people who competed in two categories the Junior and the Youth sailing together amidst the strict precautionary measure applied in accordance with the protocol issued by Dubai Sports Council, the official sport’s governing body in Dubai. The committee was keen to implement all precautionary measure at all times including avoiding crowd and maintaining the social distancing, wearing a mask and taking the temperature.
The boat no. 118 Eklaa owned by Saif Ebrahim Hassan Al Marzouqi and skippered by Ahmad Younes Abdulla Al Hamadi who led the team to take off the first position in the Youth category against its rival boat no. 105 Hujoom owned and skippered by Suhail Abdulla Al Hamadi who took the second spot. On the third position is boat no. 85 Barq owned by Jaber Mohamed Jaber Al Hamadi and led by Hamza Al Ali.
In the Junior Category the first to arrive was the boat no. 21 Toofan owned by Ahmed Ismail Al Marzouqi and skippered by Zayed Sultan Al Dhaheri who took the first position against the boat no. 24 Serab owned by Mohamed Abdul Aziz Al Hamadi led by his son Abdulrahman. And on the third position on this category is the boat no. 90 owned by Abdullah Sultan Almarzooqi led by his son Sultan.
The race took place in the afternoon at the waterfront of Dubai Beach with amazing view of the Burj Khalifa skyline and the finish line near the Burj Al Arab Hotel with a race distance of 5 nautical miles.

The second round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race was scheduled next year 2021, in the ninth of January, as per the approved calendar.

The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) crowned the champions of the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Championship, which was held last Saturday at the opening of the club's new season 2020-2021.
The awarding ceremony took for the youth and junior category was held via online(virtually) for the first time in line with the compliance to the precautionary measure and social distancing as the trophy to handed over separately to each participants.
The virtual awarding ceremony was held led by the presence of Mohammed Harib the DIMC CEO , Mahra Falaknaz, the Secretary General of the UAEMSF who spoke about the event and thanked all the participant. Also with them is Hazeem Al Gemzi, the Director of Sports Department at DIMC who announced the winning boats as the final result of the race in two categories as follows:
