Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (22ft) - Heat 1

Today, we will witness the opening race for the watersports season 2022-2023 with the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race. 

DIMC organize this race as a continuation of the efforts in support of the young generation to develop their skills in sailing. In this regard, the club allocates three rounds for this category wherein the first round will be held today followed by the second round on the 5th of November and the third round on the 17th of December. 

The club has completed all the necessary preparation for today's race in coordination with the government and national institutions wherein 40 will gather to compete for the first place. 

The young sailors are ready to take the challenge today and to showcase their skills in sailing that they have acquired from their forefathers. 

Mohammed Al Marri , the Director of Sports Affair at DIMC said that the preparations for today's race have been completed accordingly to welcome the start of the new season. He wishes everyone the best of luck and success in all the races this season.   

He revealed that today's race will be dedicated to the youth and junior categories, in which this race have been known since its establishment in 1999. Hoping that today, one of this young sailors will be the future of sailing by gaining from experience.

Mafarj boat no 131 led by the Emirati Sailor Ibrahim Saleh Al Hammadi was crowned as the last season (2021-2022) champion of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race.

The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) organized the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race since 1999 as a translation of the vision of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum who establish this race as an academy to train the young and junior sailors that will qualify them in the bigger race.

The Dubai International Marine Club organized the first race of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race on the first of October 1999, with the participation of 16 boats.

A remarkable success for the season-opening of 2022-2023 with the first round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race which signifies the start of a busy season for the club. 

The race was organized by Dubai International Marine Club last Sunday in Jumeirah showcasing the stunning Dubai cityscape, the race course started 5 nautical miles from Deira Island opposite Bulgari Resort towards Jumeirah 4 near the World Island and the iconic Burj Al Arab.

The boat no. 40 "Theeb" owned by Zayed Ali Abdulla Al Hosani and led by Mohammed Tariq Al Hosani succeeded in reaching the finish line first leaving behind all other participants in the race by winning the first in the ranking under the Junior category (under 16 years old) while Saleh Al Marzouki top the ranking for the Youth Category (under 21 years old).

Chaos before the start of the race wherein the organizing committee postpones the race start from 1:00pm to 3:00 pm due to the sea state and successively agreed by another committee.

Theeb 40 was hailed as the winning boat for the Junior Category (under 16 years old) followed by boat no. 88 Theban is owned by Salem Al Qubaisi and skippered by Tarish Al Qubaisi while in the third position is Al Reem 90 owned by Abdullah Al Marzouqi and led by Sultan Al Marzouqi.

For the Youth Category (under 21 years old) boat no. 32 Sultan Al Khair ahead of boat no. 13 Tawaq owned by Al Obaid Group led by the sailor Fahad Jassim Mayouf for the second place and boat no. 118 Eklaa took the third position owned by Ahmed Younis Al Hammadi.

The race was supervised and followed by the DIMC Board Member Jamal Zaal with Mohammed Harib the CEO of DIMC and Mohammad Al Marri the Acting Director of Sports Affair and Race Director in DIMC.

Great Start

Jamal Zaal bin Kreshan, a member of the club's Board of Directors praised the great organization and participation from the boat owner, and sailors and their keenness to be part of the opening race in the new season which contribute a lot to its success.

The rookie Mohammad Tariq Al Hosani led the crew for boat no. 40 to win the title in the first round of the 22ft Dhow Sailing Race, he said that the winning point for the team was selecting the right path to reach the finish line faster in which the team worked hard prior to the start of the new season.

The opening round of the 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race was participated by 43 boats carrying 200 young sailors who competed for the two categories the junior under 16 years old and the youth under 21 years old.  b
