Dubai International Marine Club will organize on Sunday the first round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (43ft) as part of the marine sports season 2022-2023.
This season the club has set two rounds of Dhow Sailing Race 43ft wherein the first will be on Saturday and the second round will be on the 19th of November.
The club has successfully launched the activities of the new season started off last September with the first round of the 22ft Dhow Sailing Race participated by 40 boats competing for the youth & junior titles, then followed by the first round of the traditional rowing race with 46 boat participants that competed into two categories such as local class run and open class run.
The club hopes to continuously run a successful and smooth event thru the race on Saturday that will bring together elite owners and experts in sailing for the 43ft Dhow Sailing Race that’s considered to be the oldest traditional racing category.
It is worth mentioning that the last season 2021-2022 boat no. 153 Hasheem took the lead in the overall ranking in 43ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race with 4 points followed by Zilzal 217 with 6 points and the third place goes to Al Dhafrah 87 with 11 points.
The Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (43ft) is consider being the oldest and most prestigious heritage race which was first organized in Dubai beaches in 29th January 1988 with the participation of 19 boats and winning the said race is boat no. 15.
Remarkably in the history of marine races , the first version of the Al Gaffal Long Distance Race in 1991 , the second in 1992 was using the 43ft Dhow Race Boat prior to a joint race of 43ft & 60ft in 1993 wherein they observe that the 60ft Dhow Boats are more suitable for a long distance race since then the Al Gaffal Race was made for 60ft Dhow Boats.
Registration for the first round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race 43ft closes today, which is organized by Dubai International Marine Club on Saturday at Dubai Beach during the current sports season 2022-2023.
The marine sports enthusiast awaits the return of this race after the successful season opener for the year 2022-2023 last months with the first round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (22ft) and Dubai Traditional Rowing Race (30ft).
Dubai beaches will witness today a great heritage marine sport with the first round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing (43ft) organized by Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) as part of the marine sports season 2022-2023.
74 boats will participate in today's event that will open the rounds of the 43ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race Category with elite owners and sailors striving hard to win the title & top position.
The race starts today at one o’clock in the afternoon from the depth of the Arabian Gulf towards the finish line in Jumeirah shore near the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel with a total distance of up to 14 nautical miles. The boats lined up to wait for the raising of the Green Flag that signifies the Start of the Race.
The organizing committee of the Dubai International Marine Club has completed all the necessary equipment for today's big event in cooperation with the success partners from the Government and National Institution. While the club continuously monitor the latest weather forecast thru the National Center of Meteorology.
Sahm boat no. 170 owned by Abdulla Ibrahim Abdullah Al Hammadi and led by Ahmed Youssef Salem Al Hammadi crowned as champion of the first round for the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (43ft) which was successfully organized last Saturday by Dubai International Marine Club.
The race was participated by more than 70 boats, all lined up on the waterfront of Dubai Beach near Deira Island that sails safely towards the finish line in the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel with a distance of more than 14 nautical miles.
The crew of the boat Sahm (170) continued its brilliance this season by taking off the first place in the last 43ft Dhow Sailing Race led by the sailor Ahmed Youssef Salem Al Hammadi who uses a good strategy to reach the finish line first.
In the last minutes of the race boat no. 170 Sahm took over the lead against boat no. 70 Nazaa owned by Sheik Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and led by Youssef Ahmed Mohamed Al Hamadi finishes second place while boat no. 87 Al Dafrah owned by Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and led by Mohammed Abdullah Juma Al Marzouqi, took on the third place.
The awarding ceremony took place in Jumeirah 5 after the race led by the presence of the DIMC Board Member Jamal Zaal accompanied by the acting Director of Sports Affair and Race Director Mohammed Al Marri who congratulate & crowned the top three winners of the 43ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race - Heat 1.
