Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) has announced the opening of registration for the first round of the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (43ft), which will be held on Saturday, 28th September, off the coast of Dubai. The race will cover a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The organizing committee notified sailors and boat owners via SMS and social media about the registration procedure, which can be completed through the club's website (www.dimc.ae). Registration will remain open daily until Friday noon, 27th September, which is the deadline for registration prior to releasing the Entry List.
Following the season opener held last Saturday, the club’s organizing committee quickly coordinated with its success partners from government departments and national institutions to ensure the smooth execution of this upcoming race.
Mohammed Harib, Board Member and CEO of DIMC, welcomed all participants in the first round of the 43ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, emphasizing that this category has been the oldest and most prestigious in traditional sailing since its inception in 1998. Since then, the club has organized around 102 races, with the upcoming race being the 103rd.
Harib acknowledged the efforts of the club's Board of Directors, chaired by Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar, as well as the organizing committee and partners, for their contribution to the success of past events and their continued support in the current season, which kicked off with a wonderful start last Saturday.
He also praised the participation of the 50 boats in the recent 22ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, including the 19 boats in the Junior category. This strong participation serves as a testament to the Emirati community's deep connection to the sea heritage passed down by their ancestors
43ft Dhow Sailing Race Schedule
Registration closes today for the first round of the 43ft Dhow Sailing Race, organized by the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC), taking place tomorrow, Saturday, 28th September, as part of the new 2024-2025 sports season.
The big race is the second event in the club’s season, which is expected to witness the participation of 70 boats competing in the first round. This race will challenge the skills of senior sailors in one of the most popular and oldest traditional dhow sailing categories.
Dubai International Marine Club has completed coordination with its success partners from government departments and national institutions, which always contribute to the success of the club's events. These include Dubai Police, Dubai Civil Defense, the National Guard - Fourth Squadron Command, and Dubai Media Incorporated.
It’s worth mentioning that last season, boat no. 63 Dahis won the first round, while the second round went to boat no. 217 Zilzal. The crew of boat no. 170 Sahm won the overall championship after earning 5 points to top the general ranking.

Today's event brings together an elite group of captains, owners, and sailors aboard up to 70 boats, all of which confirmed their participation after the registration period closed on Friday. They will recreate a scene from the past against one of the most stunning waterfronts in the region and the Arabian Gulf.
Participants will line up in the depths of the Arabian Gulf near the starting line at Umm Al Hatab Island, heading towards World Island and Jumeirah Shore, with the finish line highlighting the iconic Burj Al Arab Hotel.
The race organizing committee has completed all preparations to ensure the success of this highly anticipated event, in coordination with key partners from government departments and national institutions. The committee also updated all participants during an online meeting yesterday, providing details about the racecourse and instructions.
Mohammed Al Marri, the Director of Sports Affairs at DIMC, said that all preparations have been completed as planned, and he wishes all participants success and safety during the race. He also urged all captains, boat owners, and sailors to adhere to the race rules throughout and after the event.
Al Teber 55, owned by Rashid Mohammed Rashid bin Ghadeer Al Ketbi and skippered by Mohammed Sohail Al Muhairi, was crowned the winner of the 43ft Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race, marking the first round of the 2024-2025 Dubai Championship.
The race, successfully organized by the Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) last Saturday, saw the participation of more than 70 boats with 1,000 sailors, painting a picture of the beautiful past amid the modern-day splendor of Dubai's waterfront, set against the backdrop of iconic islands and beaches.
The boats sailed from the depths of the Arabian Gulf for 14 nautical miles, finishing opposite Ain Dubai, the iconic cultural landmark. The race champion, Al Teber 55, completed the course in one hour and seven minutes to cross the finish line buoys.
With their expertise, the captain and crew of Al Teber 55 successfully chose the fastest route, securing victory ahead of the second-place finisher, boat 217 Zilzal, owned by Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and skippered by Marwan Abdullah Mohammed Marzouki. The third-place finisher was boat no. 70, Al Taf, owned by H.E. Mohammed Rashid Al Rumaithi and skippered by Yousef Ahmed Al Hammadi.
In the remaining positions, Ghazi 103, owned and skippered by Ahmed Saeed Al Rumaithi, finished fourth, while Al Makhouli 40, owned and skippered by Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, took fifth. Al Shaqi 96, skippered by Khalaf Butti Al Ghasheesh Al Marri, came in sixth, followed by Al Adaid 30, skippered by Rashid Mohammed Rashid Al Remaithi, in seventh place. Hasheem 153, skippered by Hassan Abdullah Al Marzouki, finished eighth. Rounding out the top ten, Al Aryam 265, owned and skippered by Ahmed Salem Al Hammadi, finished ninth, while Atlas 12, owned and skippered by Ahmed Rashid Al Suwaidi, took tenth place.
Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Department at DIMC, and Colonel Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi from the Ports Police Station, crowned the race champions: the captains of Al Teber 55 (first), Zilzal 217 (second), and Al Taf 70 (third).
Promising Start
Mohammed Suhail Al Muhairi, captain of the Al Teber 55 boat, expressed his great happiness at winning the title in the first round of the 2024-2025 Dubai Championship, describing it as a promising and more than wonderful start. He praised the performance of the boat’s crew and dedicated the victory to its owner, Rashid Mohammed Rashid bin Ghadeer Al Ketbi.
