The crew of Atlas 12, owned and skippered by Ahmed Rashid Jumaa Al Suwaidi, claimed victory in the Dubai Traditional Dhow Sailing Race (60ft), organized by the Dubai International Marine Sports Club on the shores of the Pearl of the Gulf, as part of the 2024-2025 sports season calendar.
In second place was the crew of Al Tabr 55, owned by Rashid Mohammed Rashid bin Ghadeer Al Ketbi and captained by Mohammad Suhail Al Muhairi. The crew of Zayurikh 120, owned by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defense, led by Captain Khalifa Muhair Saeed Al Mazrouei, finished third.
The race marked a promising start for this category, with over 70 dhow boats lining up at the starting line in the Arabian Gulf off the coast of Dubai. Once the green flag was raised, the boats sailed smoothly for 20 nautical miles, taking advantage of stable wind and sea conditions as they raced toward the finish line near the Burj Al Arab, between the World Islands and Palm Jumeirah.
Atlas 12 led the race, completing it in approximately one hour and twenty-five minutes. The crew’s skill in navigating race conditions and selecting the shortest route secured them a well-deserved first place, ahead of Al Tabr 55 and Zayurikh 120, in an exciting contest.
Other boats that secured top positions included Al Dhafra 125 in fourth place, Barq 183 in fifth, Shaheen 57 in sixth, Zilzal 25 in seventh, Toofan 21 in eighth, Namran 211 in ninth, and Ghazi 103 in tenth.
Following the race, an awards ceremony was held for the top three finishers, with Mohammed Al Marri, Director of the Sports Affairs Department at the Dubai International Marine Club, and Colonel Ali Abdullah Al Naqbi from Dubai Police Port Station presenting the honors.
